iOS 16: How to Force Reboot With Siri

By Aaron Kim 0 comments Last updated September 24, 2022

Not many people utilize Siri as much as they could, perhaps because they’re shy of talking to their iPhones in public. But if they did, they’d realize how useful Siri can be when you don’t want to complete mundane tasks on your iPhone. There are so many things Siri can do for you, and sometimes the voice companion can make relatively complex tasks easy. Since all you have to do is use your voice and say a command, you can perform functions such as force rebooting with ease. To find out how to do this, read on.

iOS 16: How to Force Reboot With Siri

Sometimes you find that certain applications or functions aren’t working on your iOS device and you think a reboot would smooth things out. For example, if your cellular data is fluctuating, a reboot could help stabilize it again. You may find yourself in a situation where you can’t access the reboot screen via traditional methods (holding the power and volume button). You could add a button on your screen to do that in the Accessibility section, but some may find a floating icon annoying to navigate on their iPhones. So the perfect workaround is by using Siri. Here’s how you can do that.

  1. Activate Siri on your iOS device via voice activation.
  2. Say something along the lines of “Hey Siri, reboot”.
  3. Siri will respond with a prompt saying, “Just to confirm, you want to restart this device?” with cancel and confirm prompts.
  4. Say “Confirm”.
  5. Your device will now reboot!

Of course, you can only reboot your device with Siri if you have the feature turned on. Some may choose to disable Siri because they may find it annoying to have it activated at certain times. If you don’t know how to turn Siri on, here’s how:

  1. Open your Settings app.
  2. Scroll down and find Siri & Search.
  3. You can toggle on Listen for “Hey Siri” for voice activation. If not, you can enable Press Side Button for Siri.
  4. Either say “Hey Siri” to your phone, or activate it with the side button!

New iOS 16 Siri and Diction Updates

Apple’s constantly looking to improve its iOS features, including Siri. Here are some new iOS 16 updates you can expect to see.

Automatic Message Sending

If you go to the Siri & Search section in your Settings apps, you can find a new toggle, Automatically Send Messages. By enabling this, you don’t need to go through the confirmation process of sending a text when you use voice diction. So if you prefer sending texts by voice instead of typing, then Siri can now automatically send the text when you’re done with it.

Siri Command Guidance

Perhaps one of the reasons why Siri goes so under-utilized is that many users might not know exactly how to use the function. With the Siri command guidance, you have a hierarchy tree of all the voice commands you can say to better use Siri. This is especially great if you have absolutely no idea what to say to your new robot pal. It’ll give you suggestions for commands and alternative phrasings.

Improved Punctuation

A big turn-off of using voice diction when texting or writing anything on your iPhone is the lack of punctuation or Emojis. The wrong punctuation can completely ruin a text and force you to go edit it manually, and Emojis inject a bunch of life and emotion into your messages. Now with improved punctuation, the diction function helps those who prefer voice activation even more.
