The Hidden Feature to Add Effects to Your Messages – iPadOS 17

By Judy Sahnz 0 comments Last updated November 9, 2023

Sending messages is one of the things all Apple users do. You send your messages by typing out the message, or you can dictate your messages. But despite your method, the text will look the same once delivered. But what if you could add effects to your messages? For example, add some confetti to a message that congratulates someone. There is a hidden feature where you can choose with what style your messages are delivered. Here’s how to access it.

How to Add Effects to Your Messages

To add style to your messages, open the iMessage app and any chat. Remember, you can use the keyboard to type your message or tap the mic icon to have your message typed for you. Don’t tap the send button when you’re ready to send your message; long-press and a hidden menu will appear.

Add Effects to Your Messages

At the top, you’ll see text that says Send with effect. You can send the message in bubble form or go full screen. If you decide to send the text message as a bubble at the bottom right, you’ll see different options you can choose from. For example, You can choose from options such as:

  • Slam – This option delivers the message in a slam style. This option is quick and direct.
  • Loud – With this option, your text is provided with some jiggle.
  • Gentle – As the name states, the text is delivered slower; thus, the name Gentle.
  • Invisible Ink – This is the most interesting option on the list since when the text is delivered, the messages are hidden until you tap the message to reveal its content. But after a few seconds, the message is hidden until you tap it again.

Add Effects to your Messages

The messages with an effect will have a replay option below them so you can remember what effect you delivered them with.

Add Effects to Your Messages With the Screen Effect

If you want the effects to take up the whole screen, tap the Screen option at the top. You can send your messages with the Echo effect that will repeat the message all over your screen. The same applies to emojis or stickers. Select your sticker and long-press on the send button to add the Echo effects to a sticker or emoji. The Echo effect will be the first on the screen tab, but if you swipe left, you can access other effects.

The second effect is the Spotlight effect. A spotlight will appear pointing at the bottom right of your display and then take up the whole screen.

The third option is the balloon effect. Different color balloons will appear from the bottom of your screen and float to the top. Unfortunately, there is no option to add more or fewer balloons, but hopefully, they will change that shortly.

The fourth effect is the confetti option. With this option, colorful confetti will fall from the top of your screen. The confetti effect is excellent if your message contains a great announcement or you want to congratulate someone.

The fifth option features a red heart from the bottom right of your screen. A single heart floats from the bottom corner to the top of your screen as if it were coming from the text message.

Do you like lasers? The sixth option will have lasers coming out of your messages and changing colors after a few seconds. The colors will range from green, blue, purple, pink, orange, and more.

The last two options are similar since they are Fireworks and Celebration. Once you know what effect you want the text message to have, tap the send button that looks like an arrow pointing up. Once you send a text message with an effect, there is no way to change it. If you long-press on the text message, you can make other changes, but choosing another effect is not one of them.

What Changes Can I Make to My Messages?

You can’t change the effect, but you can do other things, such as:

  • Edit the message
  • Copy it
  • Translate it
  • Reply
  • Speak – Have the message be read out loud
  • More – With this option, you can forward your message. If you change your mind, tap the cancel button at the top right.

Speaking of effects, if you want to know how to add playback effects to a live photo, here are the following steps. Also, you can use FaceTime camera effects to make your call more fun. If there is a specific topic you’re looking for, remember you can always use the search bar at the top left for more information.

Conclusion

Who said that sending messages has to be boring? With the effects in iMessage, you can add confetti to your message if you’re celebrating something or even balloons. You can also decide how you want the message delivered and whether to send it with disappearing ink or give it a gentle effect. There are different options to choose from, all of which are fun to use. Which one do you think you’re going to use most?
