How to Add Credit Cards to iCloud Keychain

When it comes to your online presence, it couldn’t be more important to keep your information protected. This is a big reason as to why we recommend that you use a password manager of some sort. You don’t want to end up re-using the same passwords over and over again, as it makes it that much easier to have your various accounts hacked.

As for online shopping, there are different tools that you can use when making purchases that keeps your information private. Apple Wallet is just one solution, but you can also add your credit and/or debit cards as well. Doing so makes it quick and easy to enter your card information, while also keeping it locked safely behind iCloud Keychain.

How to add Credit Cards to iCloud Keychain on Mac

With iOS 16, iPadOS 16, and macOS Ventura, Apple has added the ability to save your credit or debit card’s security code to iCloud Keychain. This was one hurdle that some would have to deal with, as their cards may not be within arms reach when you need to make a quick payment.

Today, we’re taking you through the steps to add credit cards to iCloud Keychain so you can make online payments even faster. Here’s how you can do just that, on the Mac:

  1. Open the Safari app on your Mac.
  2. Click Safari in the menu bar.
  3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Autofill.
  5. Next to Credit cards, click the Edit… button.
  6. Enter your Apple ID password, when prompted.
  7. In the bottom right corner, click the + button.
  8. Enter the following pieces of information:
    1. Card Nickname
    2. Name
    3. Card Number
    4. Expiration
    5. Security Code
  9. Click Done.

How to add Credit Cards to iCloud Keychain on iPhone and iPad

Chances are, you probably make a lot more payments from your phone as opposed to your computer. So you’ll want to make sure that iCloud Keychain has all of your credit card information stored in order to make those payments. Here’s how you can add credit cards to iCloud Keychain on iPhone and iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Safari.
  3. Under the General section, tap AutoFill.
  4. Tap Saved Credit Cards.
  5. Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone’s passcode.
  6. Under Safari, tap Add Credit Card.
  7. Enter the following pieces of information:
    1. Name
    2. Card Number
    3. Expiration
    4. Security Code
    5. Description.
  8. Tap Done in the top right corner.

Another option that you have if you are want to add credit cards to iCloud Keychain on an iPhone is to use the camera. There’s a Use Camera button at the top of the Add Credit Card page, which uses your iPhone’s camera to scan the front and back of the card. Just tap that button, and follow the on-screen instructions to add a credit card to iCloud Keychain.

How to Edit Credit Cards in iCloud Keychain

Considering that Apple’s decision to have your security or CVV codes saved in iCloud Keychain is a new feature, you might want to go update your information. The steps are essentially the same for the iPhone, iPad, and Mac, but with a couple of differences.

From the Mac:

  1. Open the Safari app on your Mac.
  2. Click Safari in the menu bar.
  3. Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
  4. Click Autofill.
  5. Next to Credit cards, click the Edit… button.
  6. Enter your Apple ID password, when prompted.
  7. Highlight the card that you want to edit.
  8. Change any of the information you need to, while also adding the Security Code.
  9. Click the Done button in the bottom right corner.

From the iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
  2. Scroll down and tap on Safari.
  3. Under the General section, tap AutoFill.
  4. Tap Saved Credit Cards.
  5. Authenticate using Face ID, Touch ID, or your iPhone’s passcode.
  6. Under Safari, select the credit card that you want to update.
  7. Tap the Edit button in the top right corner.
  8. Change any of the information you need to, while also adding the Security Code.
  9. Tap the Done button in the top right corner.

And that’s it! Moving forward, whenever you need to make an online payment, you no longer need to worry about getting up to grab your wallet. Instead, the Security Code is saved alongside the rest of the card information and it will be automatically populated when needed.
