While we always recommend supporting developers when possible, the truth is that there are a slew of free apps on the App Store that are worth the download. Unfortunately, Apple has increased security for the iPhone to the extent that there’s always a passcode or password that needs to be entered.

How to Disable Password for App Store
While it’s true that Apple does everything it can in order to ensure that unauthorized purchases won’t be made on your iPhone, there’s a workaround for those who want to disable password for App Store. The only “catch” is that you’ll first need to turn off Face ID in order to get this workaround to work properly.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Scroll down and tap Face ID & Passcode.
- When prompted, enter your iPhone’s passcode.
- Tap the toggle next to iTunes & App Store to the Off position.
Now that you have turned off Face ID verification for the App Store, there is one more step that you need to take.
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top of the page.
- Scroll down and select Media & Purchases.
- Select Password Settings from the pop-up menu.
- Under Free Downloads, tap the toggle next to Require Password.
- Enter your passcode, if prompted.
Moving forward, you can download and install all of the free apps you could want on your iPhone or iPad and won’t need to enter a password. This can come in extremely handy if you like checking out new apps all of the time, but don’t want to be prompted to enter a password.
It’s also important to know and understand that these changes will only work for free apps on the App Store. If you (or someone else) attempts to purchase an app from the App Store, the password prompt will reappear. However, instead of just being able to authorize the purchase with Face ID (or Touch ID), your iPhone and iPad will instead force you to enter your Apple ID password.
Require Password Greyed Out?
Finally, there’s also a chance that you may go through the steps above and are unable to toggle the Require Password feature. This may depend on whether you are attempting to remove the requirement from an iPhone with a specific type of profile installed. Usually, this occurs if you happen to be trying to remove the password requirement on your work iPhone.
In those cases, you will be unable to remove the need for a password. At that point, you’ll want to reach out to your company’s IT department to see if you can get an exception or if there’s another workaround to perform.
